The League of Women Voters of Westchester is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation in government. The League neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties. The League is supported by public-spirited individuals, businesses, and organizations.
What an election season it has been! I first extend my sincere appreciation of all the volunteers who worked so hard over the last several months. Not only did all volunteers remain energized throughout by exceeding Voter Service objectives, but the efforts were recognized by voters, members, and friends. Accomplishments included registering new voters (especially on local college campuses); facilitating virtual candidate forums; providing candidate and ballot information to voters through voter guides and Vote411.org; increasing our social media presence; facilitating educational workshops as offered through the Westchester Library System; poll monitoring; and launching the LWVW Youth Corps.
LWVW’s visibility and collaborative spirit has heightened, and we want that to continue. The county League had the pleasure of connecting with new organizational partners and reigniting others, and we look forward to building community relationships. We are also aligning more strategically with the eight local leagues in Westchester, and value working together.
While we celebrate our accomplishments, we now look to achieving new goals and working on opportunities for improvement. While Voter Service is our core advocacy, it is now time to move forward supporting other issues of commitment with County Government; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Environment; Health Care; and Women’s and Children’s Issues. And, of course, we’re just getting started with the Youth Corps!
To quote Winston Churchill, “Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential.”
